Often cross stitch designs require outline stitches, quarter and half stitches and often suggesting 1 or 2 strands of floss or stranded cotton. An embroidery needle is ideal for this task a size 7 being the most popular.

It is easy to thread whilst still being fine not to split the fibres of the completed work.
